What do these terms mean?

Current rating — How energy efficient your home is right now, on a scale from A (best) to G (worst).

Potential rating — The rating your home could reach if recommended improvements (like better insulation)

Energy efficiency score — A number out of 100 behind the letter rating. Higher is better. This gives a more precise picture than the letter alone

Walls / Roof / Floor / Windows — These describe what each part of your home is made of and how well insulated it already is

Main heating — What heats your home and how (e.g. "boiler and radiators, mains gas"). This matters for grant eligibility since some schemes focus on switching from certain fuel types.

Inspection date — When the EPC assessment was carried out. Ratings can become outdated if you've made changes since, or if the home has changed hands.

Warmer Homes Scotland — A Scottish Government scheme

ECO4 — A UK-wide obligation on energy companies to fund home upgrades for low-income and vulnerable households.

Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan — Available to homeowners regardless of income or benefits, offering grant funding (and an optional loan) towards insulation costs.

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) — Based on your home's Council Tax band rather than its EPC rating. You can find your Council Tax band on a recent Council Tax bill

This tool gives you a starting point based on publicly available criteria, not a guarantee. The final decision always sits with the Grant provider
